Travelmetry Demand Index
Where traveller intent is actually heading across offbeat India - a 0-100 index per destination, computed every day from real intent signals on this platform plus seasonal pressure. No survey, no vibes: the formula is below.
How the index is computed
Every destination gets a daily score: TDI = 0.40·Traction + 0.25·Momentum + 0.35·Season
Traction · 40%
Weighted intent events on Travelmetry over the last 28 days, ordered so that human-verified actions outrank anonymous ones: favorites (×3, login-gated), condition-alert subscriptions (×3, email-gated), saved searches (×2), vibe-match recommendations (×1.5) and outbound booking clicks (×1). Clicks are down-weighted on purpose - an anonymous click is the easiest signal to inflate, so the index leans on the actions a bot cannot fake. Log-scaled, then percentile-ranked across the whole catalogue: the index reads where attention concentrates, independent of total traffic volume.
Momentum · 25%
The same weighted activity measured against the previous 28 days, Laplace-smoothed (k=3) so a handful of events on a quiet page never reads as a fake surge. Near-silent destinations sit at a neutral 50.
Season pull · 35%
The current month's crowd-calendar score: curated crowd levels, the destination's best-time window, and India's holiday geometry - long weekends, school vacations, festival pressure - computed deterministically for every destination.
Bands: 75+ Surging · 60-74 Rising · 45-59 Warm · 30-44 Steady · under 30 Quiet. The index is recomputed daily at 10:30 AM IST. First-party signals reflect activity on this platform; they are reported as relative ranks, never as absolute market volumes. Cite as “Travelmetry Demand Index (TDI)” with a link to this page.
Demand Index FAQ
What is the Travelmetry Demand Index?
▼
The Travelmetry Demand Index (TDI) is a daily 0-100 score for each offbeat Indian destination showing where traveller demand is actually heading. It combines real first-party intent signals (saves, alert subscriptions, searches), attention momentum versus the previous four weeks, and seasonal pressure from India's holiday and best-time calendar. It is recomputed every day and the full methodology is public.
Which Indian destinations are trending right now?
▼
The live ranking on this page lists every indexed destination from highest demand to lowest, updated daily. Each row breaks down into its three drivers - traction, momentum and season - so you can see whether a place is rising because of real traveller activity, an approaching high season, or both.
Is the Demand Index based on real data or estimates?
▼
It is built only from real signals, never synthetic numbers. Traction comes from actual actions taken on Travelmetry - favorites, condition-alert subscriptions, saved searches and vibe matches - with human-verified actions weighted above anonymous clicks. Season pull is computed deterministically from the crowd calendar. Nothing is invented.
How often is the Demand Index updated?
▼
The index is recomputed once a day at 10:30 AM IST and cached for the following 24 hours, so the ranking you see reflects the most recent full day of traveller activity.
