A 16th-century castle in the Vindhya foothills that has been running Bhil village safaris since before rural tourism had a name.
Castle Bijaipur was built in 1543 and the family turned it into a heritage stay decades before the trend, using it as a base for horse safaris, jeep trips to Bhil and Gadulia Lohar settlements, and walks to the Bassi hills. The setting is the transition zone where the Aravalli scrub gives way to the Vindhya, so the landscape is farmland, low forest and lakes rather than desert. Forty kilometres from Chittorgarh, and a genuinely different Rajasthan from the Jaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer line.
