Kuno was cleared and prepared for Asiatic lions for two decades before becoming the site of the 2022 cheetah reintroduction from Namibia and South Africa. The habitat is why: open kardhai grassland and gentle Vindhyan ridges cut by the Kuno river, closer to African savanna than to sal jungle. Sightings are managed and not guaranteed, and the park is still finding its tourism footing, which means small numbers and low prices. Gwalior is the nearest airport at 200km.
