Surajkund is an anomaly: everyone in Delhi knows the name because of the crafts mela held here each February, and almost nobody has looked at the monument it is named after. It is a 10th-century Tomar-period reservoir built as a semicircular amphitheatre of stone steps in the Aravallis, oriented to a sun temple whose remains sit on the western ridge. Outside mela season it is quiet, the steps are walkable, and the geometry of the curve against the ridge is worth the twenty-minute drive from south Delhi.
