The only sanctuary in India dedicated to the Gangetic dolphin: sixty kilometres of open river you watch from a wooden boat.
A 60km stretch of the Ganga between Sultanganj and Kahalgaon is India's only protected area created specifically for the Gangetic river dolphin, a functionally blind freshwater cetacean that navigates by echolocation and surfaces with a distinctive puff. Sightings are frequent in the right season and boats run from Sultanganj, where the Ajgaibinath temple sits on a rock in mid-river. Smooth-coated otter, gharial and a heavy winter bird presence come with it. There is no tourism industry around this at all.
