Vindhyavasini stands on the riverbank at Vindhyachal, 8km from Mirzapur, and is one of the principal Shakti Peethas of north India. It is not a standalone shrine: Ashtabhuja on one hill and Kali Khoh in a ravine on the other complete a triangle that pilgrims walk as one circuit, roughly eight kilometres with a climb to each. Navratri twice a year brings enormous crowds; outside those weeks the hill temples are quiet. Varanasi is two hours away and almost nobody makes the trip.
