How this forecast is made

Jam risk (0-100) combines five inputs: how busy a place normally is (its curated crowd baseline), whether it is in its good-weather season that month, whether a 3-day crowd from Delhi NCR can get there and back (road distance, roughly 1.35 times the straight line), how big the holiday is, and any mela or festival at or near the place that weekend (a Kumbh snan adds up to 30 points, from organisers' announced dates). Busy places absorb a disproportionate share of a long weekend, so the holiday surge scales with the baseline. It is a forecast from those inputs, not a headcount. We backtested it on the Gandhi Jayanti weekend (2-4 Oct 2026): every place reported jammed that weekend (Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie, Nainital, Kainchi Dham, the Badrinath road) scores in the top band.

Before you drive, check road status for the high passes; hill roads close for snow and landslides at short notice.

How is this forecast made?

▼

Each place gets a jam-risk score from five things: how busy it normally is (its crowd baseline), whether it is in season that month, whether the long-weekend crowd from Delhi can reach it and back within the break (road distance against the number of days), how big the holiday is, and any mela or festival at or near it that weekend. It is a forecast from those inputs, not a count of people.
