Bhindawas is a man-made freshwater lake fed by the Jawaharlal Nehru canal, designated a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2021. Over 250 species have been recorded, with winter bringing greater flamingo, common pochard, black-necked stork, Eurasian wigeon and steppe eagle, and the resident Indian spot-billed duck and sarus present year-round. There is a bund you can walk the length of, watchtowers, and essentially no other people. It is 65km from Gurugram, which makes the emptiness hard to explain.
