Ghughua preserves petrified trunks, leaves, fruit and seeds from the forests that grew here just before and during the Deccan Trap eruptions, roughly 65 million years ago. Palms, eucalyptus, banana and jamun are all identifiable in the stone. The fossils sit in open scrub across 27 hectares, with a small museum on site. It is a national park in name and an empty field in practice: 70km from Jabalpur, on the road towards Amarkantak.
