The Karmanasa river cuts through the Kaimur hills and drops into a narrow gorge at Karkatgarh, where a resident mugger crocodile population led the state to declare a crocodile conservation reserve in 2019, the first of its kind in Bihar. You can see them basking on the rock shelves from the rim. The water is strong from July to October. There are no facilities; go from Bhabua with a local vehicle, and stay well back from the edge.
