An entire ancient city dismantled, moved and rebuilt on an island before the reservoir drowned the valley it stood in.
Nagarjunakonda was the Ikshvaku capital Vijayapuri, with monasteries, stupas, an amphitheatre and a stadium, and in the 1950s the Nagarjuna Sagar dam was going to put all of it under water. So the monuments were cut apart, catalogued and reassembled on top of the hill that became an island when the reservoir filled. You reach it by launch across open water and walk through a transplanted city with the lake on every side. The museum holds Andhra-school limestone reliefs of the first rank. It is a strange, magnificent, under-visited place.
