The oldest surviving fort in Punjab, built from Kushan-period bricks, where Razia Sultana was imprisoned in 1240.
Qila Mubarak at Bathinda stands on a mound of its own accumulated ruins, built with narrow bricks of the Kushan period which makes parts of it around 1,800 years old and the oldest standing fort in Punjab. Razia Sultana, the only woman to rule the Delhi Sultanate, was imprisoned here after her deposition in 1240. Guru Gobind Singh visited, and a gurdwara stands inside. The fort has been partly restored and sits in the middle of a working Punjabi city that gets no tourism at all.
