A border temple displaying the unexploded Pakistani shells that fell around it in 1965 without a single one detonating.
Tanot sits in the desert close to the Pakistan border and is maintained by the Border Security Force. In the 1965 war Pakistani artillery landed more than three thousand shells in and around the temple compound; none that struck the temple exploded, and the duds are now displayed in a small museum inside. Longewala, the 1971 battlefield, is nearby. Visiting requires clearing a BSF checkpoint and carrying ID, and the drive from Jaisalmer is 120km of empty desert road. Very few tourists make it.
