Coringa protects the mangroves of the Godavari estuary, the second largest such formation in the country after the Sundarbans, with 35 mangrove species threading between tidal creeks. A boardwalk runs out into it from Coringa village, which is the easiest way anywhere in India to stand inside a mangrove without a boat. Fishing cat, otter, olive ridley turtles on the sand spit, and over 120 bird species including big winter wader counts. The sand spit at Hope Island shelters the whole bay. Kakinada is 18km away.
