Nelapattu is a village tank with barringtonia trees standing in the water, and every winter spot-billed pelicans arrive to breed in them in numbers that make it one of the largest colonies of the species in south-east Asia. Painted storks, open-billed storks, white ibis, spoonbills and night herons nest alongside. The birds are directly overhead from the bund, which makes it one of the easiest serious bird photography sites in India. The village has protected the colony for generations. It is 20km from Sullurpeta on the Chennai-Nellore road.
